"When should I start shopping for my wedding dress?"

The short answer? We recommend starting your dress search about 10–12 months before your wedding date.

While every bride's timeline is different, this window gives you the best selection, the least amount of stress, and plenty of time for alterations before your big day.

Why 10–12 Months?

Many wedding gowns are made to order, which means they aren't sitting in a warehouse waiting to ship.

Most of our designers require approximately 5–6 months for production. Once your gown arrives, alterations are the next important step. Alterations can take 2–3 months, depending on the work needed and your wedding date.

Starting 10–12 months before your wedding allows time for:

• Finding the dress you truly love

• Ordering your gown

• Shipping and delivery

• Professional alterations

Most importantly, it allows you to enjoy the process instead of feeling rushed.

What If I'm More Than a Year Away?

If you're 12–18 months from your wedding date, congratulations—you have plenty of time!

Shopping early gives you access to the widest selection of styles and allows plenty of flexibility if you decide to customize your gown or make changes along the way.

What If My Wedding Is Less Than 10 Months Away?

Don't worry—many brides find their dress with less time.

If your wedding is 6–10 months away, there may still be time to special order a gown depending on the designer and style. Your bridal consultant can help determine what options are available.

What If My Wedding Is Coming Up Fast?

If your wedding is less than 6 months away, don't panic.

At Main Street Bridal, we offer beautiful off-the-rack wedding gowns that can be taken home much sooner than a special order gown. We can also discuss rush options when available.
